The Staff, Board of Directors, & Families at Haven House Wish You a Very Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year!

Christmas is a time of love and family. It is a special time spent together in a peaceful environment recognizing the birth of our Savior. A Savior who arrived as a humble infant, born in the town of Bethlehem. Matthew 2: 1-2 When Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of King Herod, behold, magi from the east arrived in Jerusalem saying, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star at its rising and have come do him homage.” In both Greek and Hebrew, Bethlehem means “House of Bread.” The infant was laid in a manger to sleep. A manger being a trough from which animals feed. How appropriate for Jesus to be born in the town of Bethlehem. Jesus, our Savior who spiritually feeds His children calls Himself the “Bread of Life.” John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.”

Being homeless, wondering where your next meal will come from, or having thoughts of worthlessness, makes it extremely difficult to remember the true meaning of Christmas. Here at Haven House we provide services to families in need in the Christian spirit of love. Our participants do their own cooking, clothes washing, working hours within Haven House or the community if not employed and attend enrichment and self-improvement classes that are supported by a caring and understanding staff. Haven House adheres to the teachings of our Savior to love our neighbors as ourselves and to serve one another humbly in love. John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Throughout Jesus’ ministry, He extended a helping hand to those in need, whether it be the sick, the poor, or the lost. He asks us to emulate this spirit of service and support. Along with our mission, we expect accountability. With love, we guide our participants to ready them back into society.

Haven House continues to excel. This fall our “Kid’s Haven Early Learning Center” received the highest position rating, that is a 5 out of 5 stars. With this rating, we are recognized by the Colorado Department of Early Childhood to be within the top 1% of daycares in the State. At the same time, Haven House continues to explore new avenues for revenue. In September, we opened the Haven House Thrift Store and The Cottage Boutique in Delta, which also provides work experience for Participants as well as steady income for our programs.

At Haven House, we work to break the cycle of generational poverty and homelessness for families each year through our Transformational Housing Program. This program is designed to support unhoused or at-risk families with children, helping them reduce dependence on public resources and build the knowledge and skills needed for lifelong self-reliance. Families can stay with us for up to two years, benefiting from a comprehensive range of services tailored to overcome individual challenges. For children, we offer specialized programs that support both preschool and school-aged kids. Our Early Childhood Education Program includes a full-time, licensed childcare and learning center that promotes healthy development. Our Youth Program focuses on school-aged children, offering a four-day-a-week after-school and summer program designed to boost academic performance and foster brighter futures.

Our program has proven effective, with success stories from families who have graduated or found stable employment and housing. The need in our community is significant, and at Haven House, we’re creating real solutions. But we can’t do it alone! Ninety percent of our funding comes from grants and donations from foundations, businesses, and individuals like you. Every dollar of your generous, tax-deductible contribution goes directly to supporting our mission to “End Homelessness, One Family at a Time.” Donations totaling $100 or more qualify for a 30% state tax credit, and donations of $5,000 or more qualify for a 50% childcare state tax credit.
